Pumpkins and Nostalgia: Activities for Your Fall Bucket List!
By: Ruby Freyer
What do you think of when you think of fall? You might think of falling leaves and Halloween, or you might think of PSAT testing and piles of homework. Either way, finding fun activities to do this fall during your free time will definitely make this season one to remember. I’ve compiled the perfect list of fall activities to make you forget all about the impending PSAT and remember what makes this season so great.
If your first thought is pumpkins when you think about fall, then these first two activities are for you. Firstly, going to a pumpkin patch is a great way to spend a Saturday, especially if you go with family or friends. There are plenty near Richmond to visit, such as Windy Knoll Farm in Mechanicsville or Lloyd Family Farms out in Rockville. Once you get your pumpkin, it's time for the second activity, which is to carve it for Halloween. You can do this by yourself, or even better, invite all your friends over and carve them together. If you're not sure what to carve, you can always look on Pinterest for tons of fun ideas!
Maybe carving pumpkins just isn't your thing, but you still have a one you got that you have no idea what to do with. This brings me to the third activity: baking! Who doesn't love eating freshly baked pumpkin pie while doing their Sunday night homework? You aren't limited to just pie though. Baking pumpkin seeds and coating them in cinnamon and sugar can make a delicious snack as well. Even apples are another quintessential fall ingredient to make pie or tarts with. If you're really ambitious, you could even try making your own apple cider.
As fun as the previous three activities are, they all require some effort and money. If you're looking for something to do that is cheap and effortless, then a fall movie marathon is the ideal autumn activity. What could be better than a whole night of horror movies with your friends? If you're not one for horror movies, you could always opt for something less scary, like a Twilight movie marathon. If even Twilight is too creepy for you (or maybe just too cringey), then you could watch all the old Disney Channel Halloween episodes–an amazingly nostalgic activity for an autumn afternoon.
Finally, if you really have no time to be doing anything else this fall other than studying, at least pick up a fall drink from Starbucks to sip on while you review your piles of notes. Personally, I think their new Pumpkin Spice Iced Chai is the best drink for fall.
Hopefully this list has given you some ideas and inspired you to make this fall one to remember!
